OUR HISTORY

Cozy homeAfter spending much of his youth learning the carpentry trade on his father's construction sites, Jim Montgomery decided on engineering school for his formal education. After four years of school and a four-year career as an engineer, he returned to home-building in 1988 to start what is now Montgomery Builders. The unique combination of being a skilled carpenter and degreed engineer has served him well in dealing with the planning and implementation of custom home building.

Since 1988 the company has remained small by choice, averaging two to four homes per year with an occasional commercial job for previous residential clients. We have designed in-house about two-thirds of the homes we've built, working with the client from day one. Almost all of our homes have been on a referral basis from architects and homeowners. We have found it makes better sense to develop a satisfied customer than spend money advertising.

The idea of building traditional homes in a town like Easton or Annapolis always intrigued Jim Montgomery, but the opportunity never presented itself. After 19 years of building on suburban lots, the opportunity to build in Eastern Village and Gibson's Grant did present itself. These subdivisions present something new to the Easton and Kent Island areas, a well designed "village" layout, community amenities, a structured traditional town architecture, and an environmentally sound land use plan.
